Chiefs’ Assistant Coach Provides Update on Injured Players

At least four players will be missing in action when Kaizer Chiefs take on Sekhukhune United in their Premier Soccer League game this Sunday, 19 January.

Speaking to a local media outlet on Thursday, 16 January, assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef provided an injury update on Ashley Du Preez, Rushwin Dortley, Edson Castillo and Gaston Sirino.

“Ashley Du Preez, he will be also out; he fractured his hand,” Ben Youssef commented.

The injury occurred last Wednesday, 8 January, during the match between Amakhosi and Stellenbosch FC.

Castillo sustained a fractured fibula while playing against SuperSport United in October 2024, and he is anticipated to be in recovery until at least March. Meanwhile, Sirino, who fractured a rib in a game against Polokwane City earlier this month, is expected to be back in action by February.

Regarding Dortley, who recently incurred an unspecified injury while representing Bafana Bafana, Ben Youssef expressed cautious optimism.

“For Dortley, it’s still 50/50, because when he went to Bafana Bafana, he picked up an injury,” he explained. “We try to manage him every week; sometimes he makes two recovery sessions because we try … he’s an international player, we have to protect [him].”

Will Kaizer Chiefs be able to take down Sekhukhune without four of their major stars? As always, watch this space!
